It is now a one horse race (lets face it - it always was!). The “two areas left are basically one - the Lake District Coast and of those “two" the Gosforth/Seascale area will be the fall guy….unless!

From Nuclear Waste Services today...its officially a one horse race for a deep and very hot nuclear dump up to the size of Bermuda.

Below is an image of Ponsonby Tarn in the "East of Sellafield Area of Focus"

There is a Petition to sign here - this is all going ahead on the say so of just four councillors in Cumbria - Democracy has been Dumped in order to facilitate this diabolic "process" for "delivery of a geological disposal facility." Lincolnshire will be heaving a sigh of relief but this dangerous plan to dump and abandon very hot nuclear waste underground would impact us all.

Update on the GDF siting process: Theddlethorpe Community Partnership

*** Sent on behalf of NWS Chief Scientific Adviser, Professor Neil Hyatt ***

Dear colleague,

I am writing to update up you on the GDF siting process. Lincolnshire County Council took the decision today (3 June 2025) to formally withdraw from the Geological Disposal Facility (GDF) siting process.  NWS will now take the steps needed to close the Community Partnership and the communities of Withern and Theddlethorpe, and Mablethorpe will leave the GDF siting process.  The GDF programme will continue to progress. Whilst Lincolnshire County Council has decided to withdraw, two communities in Cumberland remain in the process and we will also consider opportunities for more communities to join the siting process.

I will update you further, in due course. If you have any questions, please do get in touch.

Kind regards

Neil Hyatt
